Nail surgery is a safe, minimally invasive procedure carried out under local anaesthesia. It is designed to permanently resolve cases such as: ingrown toenails, chronic infections, deformed nails or repeated trauma.

The procedure involves carefully removing the problematic portion of the nail plate (partial avulsion) or the entire nail (total avulsion).

In most cases, a chemical called phenol is applied to the nail matrix (the growth area at the base) a technique called matrix phenolisation. This step significantly reduces the chance of the problem returning (success rates often exceed 95%).

The two types of nail avulsion procedures:

Partial Nail Avulsion (PNA): In a partial nail avulsion, only the problematic section of the nail is removed, along with the underlying nail matrix to prevent regrowth in the affected area. This approach preserves most of the natural nail, offering a targeted solution that reduces pain and minimises the chance of recurrence.
Z
Total Nail Avulsion (TNA): In a total nail avulsion, the entire nail is removed when severe infection, trauma, or deformity affects the whole nail. This option may be recommended if the condition involves most or all of the nail. After removal, the nail bed is left to heal, with options for either allowing the nail to regrow or using chemical agents to prevent regrowth if needed.
